课程英文简介
Principals of English for Liberal Education: Literature

Aims of The Course (课程目的)
English for Liberal Education: Literature is taught as an English course but explores very essential and fundamental issues in Literature. It is not only a journey to experience literary classics, those excellent products of human civilization, but it takes students to have their hands-on experience to read a literary text as a scholar, with critical scrutiny and academic competence as well. Its aim is to incorporate the input of literary knowledge into the learning of the English language in a dynamic and lively manner. While being exposed to the kaleidoscope world of literature, students are at the same time reading, listening to, speaking and writing English.
More importantly, through the course, students are expected to familiarize themselves with a panorama of the discipline—a diversity of its research topics, major schools of thought and their representatives, major theories and works, and basic research methods. When obtaining knowledge of the discipline, students are encouraged to reflect upon the topics from a broader philosophical perspective and relate what has been learned to their own life. In terms of English learning, students are required to master summary writing of academic literature and develop their critical thinking skills, and speaking and presentation skills.

Course Components (课程内容)
Components of a typical unit are:
Prelude & Preparation: Warm-up thinking and discussion

Multi-media and the Internet will be widely used in in-class teaching and after-class consultation and supervision.
